Main airport at Andaman: Andaman’s only airport is the Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair (capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands). It is named after the freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, who spent 10 years as a prisoner at the infamous Cellular Jail. Night landings are very rare in Port Blair. At present there are only 3 routes available from Indian Mainland to reach the capital city of Port Blair. International flights from nearby countries like Indonesia and Thailand are not operating from Port Blair Airport although the distance from Andaman to these destinations is much less than the distance from the available routes.
Direct flights and take around 2.5 hours. Flights from Delhi fly via Kolkata or Bhubaneswar and take around 5 hours in total. Connecting flights are also available from some destinations in the Indian mainland.
